Old Soul

Collapsing moments quiver
Beneath the crush of time
A birth
Sublime
A monstrous past in shackles

Regardless of the meaning
A new shape
Is leaning
Into the vacancy
To rest upon my soul

Hollow
The echoes of a lost love
Retreat into the distance
Follow
The channel of my footsteps
Worn deep into my heart

I have paced this path before
Left tracks to draw a line
Remember
The future
Forgets the past is intertwined

Draw closer with each breath as
She takes shape through her words
Conforming
Confirming
The truth of all I’ve heard

Borrow
The strength of a companion
We step into the stars
Sorrow
Flows freely from the spiral
Released from angry scars

  1. An excellent poem. The pacing and the rhyme are skillfully done. I especially loved these lines:

‘I have paced this path before
Left tracks to draw a line
    Remember
    The future
    Forgets the past is intertwined’

We never can leave our past totally behind us. It becomes a part of who we are.

    Great writing!
