Worry

Head in the lion’s mouth
Try to set aside my doubts
Keep the beast at peace
Blunt those hungry teeth
But it’s gnawing at my guts
And it hollows out this love
When nothing fills my days
It drives me slowly crazy

Shadows In The Garden

Here I stand with head in hands where once love’s fountain danced
Caught within an arid drought the fountain soon collapsed
Lust and heat, our time complete, so comes the dust
Less or more, I am too poor to pay the cost

Her letter crumpled, torn apart
My reply as yet unwritten
The bitter snake coiled in my heart
Is it her or me who’s bitten?

It is a scab I must pick at, old agony
A dedicated friend who reminds me just to breathe
Two forlorn and weather worn gargoyles still stare across
A courtyard full of dying dreams now washed by rains of loss

Her letter torn and stained with tears
This is all that I have written
The years have multiplied my fears
I know now who was bitten

Hold My Breath

I was dreaming of your touch
You were the air upon my skin
And when it got too much to be apart I could breathe in
To feel my lungs expand
Feel you move into my bloodstream
You are vital like my breath just as in the dream
You are the essence of my being

Brave New World

Exploring undiscovered country
These hills and vales I claim for me
And if there is hidden treasure in secret caves below
I will plumb the depths until the earth quakes where I go

Stake my claim and
Plow the land
Sow my seeds and
Raise my hands

They told me this was barren soil
But I will change that with my toil
Irrigate the fertile pastures
Raise my crops in love and laughter

Raise my hands and
Pray for growth
This land’s harvest
Is one of hope

Captivity

Apparently my errant queen
Is working murky sorcery
I hanker for her as she deftly weaves
A clever net of charms o’er me
I hope she never sets me free
From love’s sweet captivity

Finding My Way

In a dark place all alone
I take a small step turn for home
And in this motion lose my way
I recognize it but it’s not the same
So I wander through the maze
Until I find a familiar face
And looking deeply in her eyes
I finally come to realize
Exactly how I went astray
Mistaking my home for a place

Love Is

If love is a tower
We build foundations in our hearts
With this magical power
We are never far apart
If love is a playground
And lovers meant to play
Then let’s make up the rules
And play the game in our own way
Let’s tumble like a pair of dice
And always total up to two
I don’t care about winning
As long as I’m with you
Let’s climb snakes and slide down ladders
Let’s rush right from the start
There’s no such thing as cheating
If the rules are made up by our hearts
If love is a mountain
Let’s climb up to the top
If love is a journey
I never want to stop
If love is an animal
Let’s risk a closer look
If love is a library
Then you’re the perfect book
Because it’s always an adventure
No matter where we are
You got me feeling like a galaxy
Expanding full of stars
It’s always so amazing
When I spend my time with you
I want to feel this way forever
With so much loving left to do
If love is an elephant
Let’s go on safari
If love is a poison
You’re the antidote I need
If love is a mystery
Let’s search for hidden clues
I don’t care if we solve the riddle
As long as I have you
If love is a gentle slope
Rolling softly to the sea
You can be the ocean
And I will be the beach
Then no matter where we go
We’ll be side by side
Hand in hand forever
Like the land kissing the tide
If love is a comet
Circling the earth
Let’s build a telescope
To see it’s real worth
If love is a symphony
I want to learn to play
And you are the instrument
Oh, the music we will make
If love is a metaphor
You are the perfect phrase
The mantra in my heart
On which I meditate
If love can be anything
And love is always true
Then love is a miracle
And I think love is you

Island Fortress

All of my life
I’ve been an island shining a light
To guide the stray ships through storms to my side
They come and they go and on the loneliest nights
A whispered prayer like a bird taking flight
Leaps from my heart and I know that in time
You’ll sail to me

I am a fortress alone on the hill
You climb my walls while I stay very still
Afraid you’ll see me without my hard shell
But I must admit your courage and your skill
Disarm my defenses and with no conflict of will
I allow you to explore inside me until
I fall in love

I want you to know
All of my life I have been like a ghost
Walking through walls with no one to walk through my own
I was so certain until you came along
I’d walk forever and take my last breath alone
But you resurrect me – now all that is done
I’m coming home

The Ferrous-Wheel

I might be pushing the definition of junk here, but I was reminded of this pseudo-sci-fi poem I wrote a while ago about a love affair between a man and an animatronic theme-park robot after the theme park has been left to fall into ruin.  Sadly, it is a love that ends in tragedy when she, too, begins to fall apart, but I thought it might be worth digging out of the junk bin and polishing up a bit for your reading enjoyment.  Thanks for visiting!

Down at the fun park upon the broken ferrous-wheel,
She kissed me with her rusty lips and offered me a deal:
“Disintegrate with me and we will scatter on the breeze.”
As she asked me for my answer her joints began to seize.
In the silence at the frozen zenith of the ferrous-wheel’s ascent,
I heard the tall brown grass below us sighing in lament.
I turned to her and took her hand as her paint began to peel.
I sadly shook my head and said, “I am not made of steel.”
She clenched her jaw and shut her eyes but still the black tears flowed,
A lonely silhouette on the ferrous-wheel when I looked back from the road.
Though it broke my heart I walked away in a rising cloud of dust –
I could not bear to watch time’s alchemy turn our love to rust.

Firebreather

When she speaks I light her breath
Inhale her like the candle’s scent
Breathe her smoky words into my heart
And set our love on fire
